Organisers of the Gold Coast Music Awards said they were relieved to finally announce categories and hear feedback from musicians and the industry.

Amanda Gorman, one of three organisers, and also a Blank team member said there had been 14 nominations throughout the day with nearly 300 views of the nomination forms.

“It’s a great start,” she said. “Especially being open for just a few hours.”

“We had nominations for all categories except one. I think everybody’s on board and it shows me that we’ve done OK with picking the categories.”

Amanda has the joyous job of developing partnerships to deliver the awards and make them an ongoing feature on the Gold Coast events calendar. She’s out and about every day pounding the pavement and drumming up support for live music and the awards in general.

“Everyone is really excited about it,” she said. ” There’s a lot of hype and people are telling me they’ve bought tickets already.”

Amanda said there were still opportunities to partner with the awards.

“We have Griffith University and their SEED Program on board, they committed very early in the piece,” she said. “They’re sponsoring the Emerging Artist of the Year Award. Plus we have Southport Sharks Cabana Bar & Lounge who are partnering with us to deliver the Band / Artist of the Year. And just yesterday City of Gold Coast confirmed their support for the Song of the Year category.”

“We also have had incredible support from a big list of creative and media partners which include Swell Sculpture Festival, elsewhere, Burleigh Brewing Co, Liquify Magazine, ABC Gold Coast, Bleach Festival, Summertime Sessions in the Village and its new counterpart Wintertime Sessions in the ‘Vale and a truckload of others,” Amanda said.

I asked Amanda what she thought the Awards would do for Gold Coast’s live music scene and she said ideally the program would celebrate everyone on the coast involved in music.

“Hopefully we will shine a big fat spotlight on the Gold Coast music scene,” she said. “And people touring their bands along the east coast will add the Gold Coast as one of the places they need to visit.”

Nominations are now open for the Gold Coast Music Awards. You can nominate yourself or someone else – but multiple nominations will be consolidated into one. Get details at the GC Music Awards website.

The awards ceremony takes place on Wednesday 22 July at Burleigh Brewing Co. Tickets are just $50 plus booking fee and can be purchased online.
