On the back of an unpredictable, disruptive and industry-gutting year, the 2021 Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMA) is recognising an even larger pool of artists than usual. For the first time, they’re publicly releasing their short-list prior to announcing finalists.

With a record number of 650 nominations, judges tell us that 2021 was the hardest year yet. So, before the finalist announcement on Thursday 5 August, the GCMA team is dropping a short-list of artists who are in with a shot.

“Every one of these artists (and indeed hundreds of others who didn’t make the shortlist) is producing world-class music and flying the flag for Gold Coast creativity,” says GCMA Director Chloe Popa.

“The volume of music coming out of the Gold Coast has never been higher.

“We only have 10 awards to announce and there’s no way we can recognise every single artist deserving of accolades, but in this list, you will find unequivocal, highly talented, absolute creative gold.

“Congratulations to all artists who made the shortlist for the 2021 Gold Coast Music Awards. We announce finalists for nine of our categories on Thursday 5 August, with voting for the People’s Choice Award opening shortly afterwards.”

In the meantime, you can listen to all of the shortlisters here.
