This two-day local festival is a free community event showcasing live talent on the Gold Coast. It promotes the old-fashioned art of busking while bringing the community together in an outdoor celebration of culture. It celebrates the grass roots, the unknown, the culture, the environment, the Gold Coast and its people. Held in Winders Park in Currumbin, it ran 18 – 19 October from 10.00am to 6.00pm, attracted more than 10,000 people and gave more than 140 buskers of all experience levels a change to perform in front of a live crowd across some 13 stages. 2014 was the first time the event was held and it resulted in a number of spin-off and complementary events including the Battle of the Buskers and a series of events at Currumbin RSL and other venues. Coordinated by Cindy Jensen on a shoe-string budget, the event punched above its weight, implemented a clear vision, brought thousands of people together and engaged a huge number of performers, resulting in significant media interest, both on the GC and further afield and many artists going on to secure their own media, stand-alone gigs and public profile.
