Gold Coast Music Awards Set to Uncover More Creative Gold in 2020

Nominations are now open for the sixth annual Gold Coast Music Awards, which will see the red carpet rolled out along the beachfront 30 April for a gala event and free Surfers Paradise LIVE! concert.

With past winners including Amy Shark, Casey Barnes and Wolfmother keyboardist, Ian Peres, the Awards shines a spotlight on the Gold Coast’s ‘must watch’ musical talent, recognising artists across nine categories from Artist and Release of the Year to Live Act, Song of the Year and more.

“It’s been so exciting to see the Awards continue to grow year on year, not to mention the soaring careers of so many Gold Coast musicians,” said Gold Coast Music Awards judging panel chair, Donna Weston.

“So much musical gold has come out of the region this year and many career milestones reached. We can’t wait to see who throws their hat in the ring with nominations this year – there are always a few exciting surprises!”

Last year’s Breakout Artist and Song of the Year winner, San Mei, said the Gold Coast Music Awards was  “one of the most special moments of my career so far.”

“As an emerging artist, it’s incredibly encouraging to have the support of and recognition by your hometown. The team sees how hard we touring/recording artists work and puts on an amazing event that makes all the participants feel valued.

“This is a wonderful and important event for the Gold Coast’s growing music industry,” she said.

Mayor Tom Tate said 2020 would be a golden year for music on the Gold Coast with the formation of the City’s Music Advisory Group.

“As part of our continued roll out of the Music Action Plan, we have formed a special Music Advisory Group tasked with growing the Gold Coast music sector,” he said.

“This group will be responsible for recognising home grown talent and providing opportunities for local artists and businesses to thrive.

“The Gold Coast Music Awards shares this goal. I look forward to seeing which talent are nominated for this year’s awards.”
