Tijuana Cartel – Live Act of the Year
Tijuana Cartel is a East Meets West wonderland. A sensory overload, euphoria, fat beats and heavy, bass-fuelled electronica live band.
In 2018 they’re coming to Europe, Asia & New Zealand to share their latest single “ISHTAR”, bringing together beats and people of all cultures to unite on the dance floor.
They’ve graced Australia’s biggest stages: Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Woodford Folk Festival & Peak Festival (NYE to 15,000 punters). 2016-17 saw them go international with performances in Indonesia & New Zealand on top of their gruelling Australian tour schedule.
They have released 5 full length albums (Frequent Flyers, They Come, M1, 24 bit Guitar Orchestra Psychedelicatessen) and their singles “Letting It Go” and “White Dove” were on heavy rotation on the national broadcaster Triple J, effectively catapulting them into the public spotlight and cementing them as one of Australia’s premier touring bands.
The band started as a couple of guitars and with the aid of a few computers, synthesisers, a percussionist & trumpeter they’ve managed to weave their way into some sort of Indy- Electronica-world-music movement.
The live set is driven by house beats, infused with trumpet, percussion and frantic middle eastern guitar lines blending layers of rich, intricate and atmospheric soundscapes with laid-back rhythms and luscious vocals.
“We blend all our personal influences together into our own sound, I’m into flamenco guitar and world sounds, where as Carey is more into break beat and electro styles, Eamon has a jazz background and Sheila brings her DJ alter ego into the mix.” Paul George (Tijuana Cartel frontman).
2018 sees a brand new Tijuana Cartel record featuring a roster of secret surprise guest artists.Creating an electronic beats tapestry that will cut through to your very soul, Tijuana Cartel is the perfect accompaniment to the rich tapestry of offerings at any festival across the globe.
“There’s really no one else doing their mix of eastern mysticism, world flavours and cutting-edge dance beats, certainly with as much flair.” Andrew Drever (Sydney Morning Herald).
“Wanna know how good this song is? When I played it on House Party SIA tweeted me wanting to know what it was?! Crazy! And well deserved.” Nina Las Vegas (Triple J Unearthed).
